Tuesday Crash Results In Serious Injury For Florence Man

An Alabama resident sustained critical injuries after becoming involved in a crash in the Leoma area Tuesday.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol report the crash occurred shortly before noon on U.S. Highway 43, near Glenrock Church.

Florence resident William Cheatham, 62, of 129 Foy Avenue, was reportedly the driver of a Harley Davidson motorcycle that was impacted by a truck driven by Lawrenceburg resident J.D. Lovell, 69.

Reports show that both vehicles were southbound. Lovell, who was towing a boat, was traveling in the outside lane and Cheatham in the inside lane.

A spare tire had reportedly fallen from Lovell’s truck. He was attempting to negotiate a U-turn to retrieve it when he collided with the motorcycle.

Reports indicate Lovell was not injured in the crash. Cheatham, however, was airlifted from the scene to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where Tuesday afternoon he was said to be in critical condition.

The crash presently remains under investigation.
